Importance of Effective Supply Chain-Free-Samples for Students
Question: How the efficiency of the Supply Chain can help to improve the motivation level of the staff? Answer: Introduction Effective supply chain management is an important part of all business process in modern days. It is believed that frequent engagement of the workers with supply chain activities is one of the effective ways to maintain high level of motivation among employees. This method is particularly effective for engineering enterprises to improve upon the productivity of the company. Complex theories of supply chain model can be applied across engineering industry in order to improve upon the efficiency. Current literature review will help to explain all the relevant theories and elements related to supply chain management that can help in staff motivation across various organisations. Research Aim/Question How the efficiency of the supply chain can help to improve the motivation level of the staff? What the theories that can be used to improve the performance of the supply chain management? Source of Secondary data All the major databases including the Google scholar are used as the source of secondary information. The articles relevant to the supply chain management that were published only after 2013 were taken for the literature review. Search Terms Following key words were used as the search terms Supply chain management Staff motivation Sustainability in supply chain Efficiency in supply chain Key elements of effective supply chain management The key function of supply chain management is to integrate the system of supply and demand. Coordination and collaboration with the channel partners and with the customers are the basic elements of the supply chain management. Grosvold et al., (2014), have highlighted upon the importance of effective communication that can help in the efficiency of the supply chain management and thereby help to improve the productivity. It is important for all the members within the supply chain management share all vital information that can help in effective communication process. This can help all other members of supply chain management to respond efficiently according to particular situation. As new product or services are being delivered at quicker rate, it enables the workers to act efficiently according to every situation thereby help in the productivity of the organisation. Integration of the supply chain management is also one of the important aspects to reduce the cost of inventory (Beske et al., 2014). Supply chain management of Wal-Mart is one of the good examples to understand the importance of integration. Suppliers of Wal-Mart provide them with the latest information related to demand of the product, which can help the company to find the best route of delivery to the customers. In order to achieve the full level integration of supply chain management, it is essential for all the workers of the department to work efficiently in order to overcome the challenge of Information sharing. It is also important for them to follow a particular Protocol in order to have better mode of communication among the internal network.Beske and Seuring (2014), have added in the context that collaboration among networks and workers is one of the biggest strength in supply chain management. All the major leading companies provide high level of training to the workers in order to motivate them to maintain collaboration and integration that can ultimately help in better productivity of supply chain management. It is also important for the workers to have latest data and information related to supply chain in order to effectively deliver the product. They also need to have information related to demand within the customer groups, in order to provide high quality service. Sustainable supply chain management practice The research paper ofBeske andSeuring (2014) highlighted up on the importance of implication of Sustainable supply chain management practices that can help to improve the productivity of an organisation. The overall rate of production and the goods that are being delivered to the customers are entirely dependent on performance of the supply chain management. According to Turker andAltuntas(2014), the sustainable supply chain management can be regarded as one of the major element to improve the overall productivity and also maintain high level of employee motivation. Supply chain management is regarded as an important part in the overall manufacturing process in the engineering firms. Genovese et al.,(2017), have mentioned about the importance of green supply chain management that is also one of the important part for maintaining the employee motivation with the help of sustainable development. Theories related to employee motivation According toCollins and Amabile (1999), it is important to focus up on employee motivation in order to improve upon the overall productivity of an organisation. It is important for the organisation in this context to implement effective theory of employee motivation in order to make full use of the potential of the workers. Managing the motivation level of employee has been one of the major challenges of all leaders within an organisation. High level of employee motivation can also help to reduce the turnover rate of workers. It can be also said in the context that there are different ways that organisations need to implement in order to motivate different type of workers. There are different motivational theories that are implemented by the organisation depending upon the condition of the workplace. There is the theory of Hackman and Oldham that suggest that it is important to enrich the objectives of a job in order to improve upon the skill level of the employees (Osabiya, 2015). The theories related to supply chain management is also an integrated part of employee motivation in Engineering Enterprises (Manzoor, 2012). It is believed that with efficient supply chain management, as the productivity is increased, it is possible for the organisation to deal with the challenge related to employee motivation. This motivation related to supply chain management is one of the extrinsic types of motivation, where the workers had to deal with most of the smooth operational management activities of the business. The theories related to sustainable supply chain management is also an integrated part of employee motivation (Ganta, 2014). It is important to mention in the context that with sustainable business development it is possible for the organisation to establish long term relationship with all their employees. This healthy relationship can be one of the major factors that can help in the development process of employee motivation. Overall the organisational performance is entirely dependent upon the motivational theory that has been applied in context of a situation. It is also important to mention in the context that the best practice of supply chain management is related to the sustainable business development process. This can help to ensure better productivity from the organisation in long-terms. The elements of the sustainable supply chain management are one of the essential parts of economic development of the organisation. Complete theory related to sustainable supply chain management According to K. Roehrich et al., (2014), the productivity of supply chain management is totally dependent upon social and environmental outcomes of the activities related to networking. It is also important to mention that the practice related to sustainable supply chain are the best forms that can help in the matter related to maintaining traditional activities. As the elements of Sustainable supply chain management are implemented within the system it is important for engineering business forms to have better productivity and invest more in the overall functioning. This investment is one of the key to motivate the suppliers and encourage them to use the best possible techniques of the supply chain. This can be easily possible in all forms of supply chain management activities of large scale engineering firms that can help in the process of dealing with the matter related to latest forms of information. It is important for these organisations to have high level of motivation that ca n be maintained by investing more in the sustainability of supply chain management. With sustainable practice within the supply chain, it is possible to deal with the challenge of the poor working performance of the workers in supply chain department. Pagelland Wu (2009), have highlighted up on the importance of innovation capability that is essential part to maintain sustainability in supply chain and can also help to create positive management attitude towards the workers. Managerial aspect of the supply chain management is also an integrated part that can help to maintain the sustainability and motivation within the supply chain management functioning. Figure 1: Model of effective sustainable supply chain Source (Pagell Wu, 2009) According to Brandenburg et al.,(2014), few of the key aspects of effective sustainable supply chain management include transparency among workers. It is also the duty of the management to ensure proper certification of the supplier that is provided to them according to their behaviour. With the help of official certification of the supplier group this possible to encourage them to improve upon their behavioural attitude. It is also necessary in this context to have rewards and incentive system within the intrinsic and extrinsic part of supply chain. This can help to improve upon the performance by maintaining high level of working motivation. The complexity in the delivery system of the products related to the engineering firms can also be overcome with the help of effective management of Sustainable supply chain. Conclusion In a concluding note it can be said that effective supply chain management is one of the key element for all major engineering forms that can help them to improve their productivity. It is also important to maintain high level of motivation among workers to improve the functioning and efficiency of supply chain management. Sustainable practice within supply chain is also an essential component that can help in better functioning and better collaboration of the workers within the supply chain management.
